It was my junior year of college. One of my friends lost his mother. I remember when Howard asked me to lead services at the shiva minyan he was having at his house. I had been leading services at Hillel for a few years; Howard was a regular attendee. I was a little shocked. Howard's family were members at a very prominent synagogue, with a rabbi who was well known throughout the country. He wanted me to lead the minyan?
I realized in that moment the impact I could have as a rabbi. Howard felt close to me, closer than I ever realized. Every week at Hillel we shared something as our voices rose together at Shabbat services at UC Santa Barbara.
I want my relationships to continue to be shaped by the sacred. I love leading services, teaching, and bringing Judaism to life for other people; it brings me so much joy. I am a rabbi because being a rabbi is a part of my soul, it is not so much what I do, but who I am.
I hope this website makes your ability to get to know me a little easier. Please be in touch if there is more you would like to know.
